Rent-A-Center (RAC) is a leading rent-to-own chain in the U.S with 40% of market share. RAC owns and operates more than 3,000 stores in the U.S., Canada and Puerto Rico. It franchises another 225 through subsidiary ColorTyme.
Rent-A-Center desired a fundamental change in the way it accounted for parts. The existing system was work order-based and RAC wanted a new system that would be purchase order-based, allowing for easier accounting of the products from both a financial and logistical standpoint. In addition, the new solution needed tighter integration with the Lawson back-end financial system.
A distributed system was deployed to RAC’s 23 service centers as well as its home office. The distributed approach was employed due to the business owner wanting the service centers to operate autonomously in the event network communications were impaired.
Perficient utilized an agile delivery approach and delivered the application in four major iterations. An Apache Tomcat application server as well as a Microsoft SQL Server 2005 database server was deployed at each service center. Weblogic Application Server was deployed at the home office using Rent-A-Center’s existing Weblogic server farm. Deployed on each service center desktop is a rich internet-based application using Java Swing technologies.
To maximize the value of the client’s technology investment, Perficient leveraged its agile methodology and an optimally blended offshore team with six on-site business and technical experts working with RAC to directly to understand its vision and propose technical solutions. Six development resources contributed from Perficient’s CMMI Level 5 Global Delivery Center in China to provide product development and testing.
