Texas Children's Health Plan Achieves NPI Compliance with Legacy Application Integration

TCHP logoTexas Children’s Health Plan (TCHP) was founded in 1996 by Texas Children’s Hospital. Since 1996, families in Houston and the surrounding areas have counted on Texas Children’s Health Plan for affordable and dependable health coverage. TCHP is the nation's first health maintenance organization created just for children. It offers a primary-care network, specialists and a large hospital network. It also offers great services to pregnant women and adults.

CHALLENGE

The National Provider Identifier (NPI) is a unique 10-digit number assigned to health care practitioners/providers and health care organizations in the United States. Each state uses its own system of unique identifiers for providers. As with all Texas-funded health plans, all TCHP properties, operations and processes must comply with NPI implementations. Perficient was engaged when TCHP needed its legacy system to be compliant with NPI requirements and integrate with other systems while TCPH was developing a new system to handle various data points and operations.

SOLUTION DEPLOYED

Using an agile approach, Perficient created several applications to upgrade the current systems to be NPI compliant, integrated with other applications, and provide relevant reports. Microsoft .Net, SQL Server and various Office Products were the primary technologies deployed across the various applications. Perficient also added features to the TCHP legacy system to make it NPI compliant and integrated with applications to create a Master Provider Table based on data calculations provided by the state.
