NASCO was formed 25 years ago through a partnership among several Blue Cross and Blue Shield (BCBS) Plans. The company provides a single-system claims processing solution for national, state, large group, small group, individual and government programs. NASCO’s core strength comes from its claims processing system, which is unsurpassed in the market for dependability, flexibility, scalability and operational performance. NASCO also offers a highly configurable membership solution that can be suited for any Plan’s total book of business, as well as a multitude of performance-based services designed to help Plan customers improve operational efficiencies and reduce costs.
Due to NASCO’s growth and a rapidly expanding need for third-party integration with BCBS Plan customers and third-party vendors, NASCO needed a more efficient way to deliver integration and new capabilities for its Plans. NASCO wanted to quickly respond to the needs of its Plans through cost-effective and reusable services. The consistent management of existing web services, along with prescriptive guidelines for new service development, was critical to meeting NASCO’s growth objectives.
NASCO partnered with Perficient to establish SOA web service standards as part of the NASCO web service governance model, which was designed to reduce integration costs, optimize reuse, and provide industry best practices customized to NASCO’s development process and multi-customer and multi-vendor model. This tailored approach included creating standards for multiple aspects of service development from security to logging.
Working with NASCO’s Service Governance Team, Perficient leveraged its SOA Governance Methodology to establish the key standards and recommended policies and process gates for NASCO’s service governance lifecycle.
Perficient continues to work with NASCO on the Integrated Services Program and is involved with the development of new Web Services that follow the newly formed SOA web services governance and certification process. Perficient is providing project management, architecture, development and testing services in support of NASCO’s web service delivery under the new service governance program.
