Almost all computer users are familiar with Microsoft's products and recognizable user interface. While Microsoft is a recognized market leader in many of its software tools, EMC Documentum provides multiple tools to get the job done when it comes to managing content and automating workflows. Documentum offers the ability to integrate with Microsoft’s platform through a set of webparts. These webparts are add-ons for SharePoint that use a web service to communicate with Documentum’s repository and provide SharePoint users access to documents created, maintained and securely stored in Documentum’s repository.
This paper will explain why the EMC-Microsoft initiative to merge on the creation of an enterprise content management (ECM) solution not only benefits the end user and the IT department with a virtually hassle-free application, but also benefits the entire enterprise by providing a cost-efficient true ECM solution that will be able to grow with the company.
