Solving the Long Tail: Putting Situational Apps in the Cloud
For years, CIOs have had to balance the needs of the business with the limited resources available. Many organizations have attempted to speed development and increase overall capacity by creating a standardized environment or platform to deliver custom applications. Unfortunately, it has been very difficult to achieve due to complexities inherent in the legacy architecture, difficulty in establishing strong governance, and ever increasing business demands. Today, however, it is possible to leverage Cloud Computing solutions to more efficiently deliver applications for the business. There are three fundamental Cloud Computing models that can be used to deliver business functionality: Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS), Platform as a Service (PaaS) and Software as a Service (SaaS). No single model is appropriate for all applications, but organizations should understand their purpose and options.
