Implementing ICD-10: Hard Work Brings Rewards

Becoming ICD-10 compliant can be viewed as a double-whammy for healthcare organizations. It requires a conversion to HIPAA 5010 transaction codes as well as an upgrade from ICD-9 diagnosis codes. Despite the headaches that accompany a change like this, many healthcare organizations are eager to take the ICD-10 plunge. This begs the question: What was the impetus for some organizations to jump onboard, while others drag their heels and hope for a compliance moratorium?   By examining the impact ICD-10 has on healthcare organizations, it becomes clear that compliant organizations that make the appropriate and necessary investments will bear the fruit of their labors. Ultimately, organizations who are eager to upgrade and be compliant know that their bottom line will be the ultimate benefactor.
