Application Integration

Historic perspective, insights, prognostications, and the Common Information Model

Successful organizations must think and plan for the future strategically and tactically. Strategic planning helps business realize long-term goals, though often becomes obscured by tactical problems. A historical perspective can give us a sense of where we’ve been and where our industry seems to be heading. As we fast forward from the beginning of the information age into the present, be mindful of the many evolutions of technology, as well as technology revolutions. Business constantly evolves; perhaps the only constant is that change will occur. While business evolves, not all businesses are at the same stage of technological evolution. Though, with proper strategic planning and tactical execution, they can and should be very close. This paper is a tactical discussion about the Common Information Model (CIM), its place within the enterprise integration framework, and how its use can prepare business for the next wave of technological change.
