A flurry of M&A activity, including the largest merger (Pfizer and Allergan) ever recorded in the pharmaceutical industry, triggered heavy consolidation and integration of systems and processes. Precision medicine, which relies heavily on Big Data analytics, garnered a tremendous amount of attention from the U.S. government and the medical community. More targeted therapies were approved than ever before.
