Every Day, Drivers Ignore School Bus Stop Arms. Every Day, Children Are at Risk.
The danger zone around a stopped school bus, where children board and exit, depends on one thing: drivers stopping when the arm goes out. Most do. Some don't. And when enforcement relies on driver reports and rare eyewitness accounts, violations go undocumented and undeterred.
By the time a violation is reported, the moment has passed. The child is already in danger.
A leading provider of fleet safety solutions came to us to change that. Not to improve reporting after the fact. To catch violations as they happen.
Built to See Everything. Miss Nothing. Act Immediately.
We deployed SAVES — the Stop Arm Violation Enforcement System — an edge AI solution that runs directly on school buses, detecting violations in real time without human intervention or cloud dependency.
What the system does:
- Six cameras positioned around each bus capture activity on both sides of the vehicle, feeding custom neural networks built to detect license plates, identify vehicles, and estimate speed in live traffic conditions
- A GPS module and IMU sensor track precise location and motion at the moment of every violation
- Everything processes on an NVIDIA Jetson Xavier onboard computer — locally, with no cloud streaming and no lag
- When a violation occurs, the system instantly compiles an evidence package containing video footage, license plate data, geolocation, and speed metrics, then transmits it securely for ticket processing
- A face reduction module automatically detects, tracks, and obscures faces in footage — protecting student privacy without compromising evidence integrity
Law enforcement accesses violation data through a web-based platform from desktop or mobile, with everything needed to issue a citation already assembled.
95% Accuracy. Real-Time Enforcement. Safer Routes.
The system achieved a 95% F1 score, meeting strict performance benchmarks for accuracy and reliability. Every equipped bus becomes an enforcement tool that operates without human intervention, at scale, across active fleets.
Violations that used to go undocumented are now caught, compiled, and actionable before the bus reaches the next stop.
That's the difference between enforcement that reacts and enforcement that prevents.
