Transforming Battery Data Into Actionable Vehicle Intelligence
A top Japanese multinational automobile manufacturer recognized that battery data was becoming a strategic asset across the electric vehicle (EV) lifecycle. However, increasingly complex telematics datasets made it challenging to efficiently ingest, manage, and analyze information at scale. At the same time, limited visibility into battery health made it difficult for dealers, auction houses, and other stakeholders to confidently assess vehicle condition and value.
The OEM saw an opportunity to address both challenges: build a modern data foundation capable of supporting advanced analytics while transforming battery data into a trusted, scalable product that improves transparency, supports regulatory readiness, and creates new opportunities for value creation.
Establishing a Modern Cloud Data Platform
We collaborated with the OEM to implement its vision for a centralized, cloud-based data platform. Working alongside stakeholders, we designed and implemented a Microsoft Azure data framework, using Terraform to stand up secure, repeatable infrastructure that supports efficient data management and governance.
Together, the teams built pipelines to ingest, clean, enrich, and aggregate complex telemetry data. The OEM also expanded its analytics capabilities using Databricks and Power BI, enabling deeper visibility into battery behavior and performance. A centralized Azure DevOps repository further supported consistency, reuse, and collaboration across development efforts.
Delivering a Battery Passport–Aligned Data Product
Building on this platform, we partnered with the OEM to define and develop a Battery Health Certificate aligned to battery passport concepts. Together, we identified key personas, gathered requirements, and shaped the product roadmap for a scalable data product that transforms battery telemetry data into actionable business insights.
The result: a single source of truth for battery health and lifecycle performance. Metrics such as state of health and state of charge are now surfaced directly to dealers, partners, and auction houses — giving every stakeholder in the ecosystem the information they need to make confident decisions.
