When Growth Makes Technology Decisions Harder

As TPS Group Holdings continued to expand its retail footprint and invest in new customer experiences, leadership recognized an emerging challenge: the systems supporting the business were no longer keeping pace with its ambitions. Legacy technology limited flexibility, complicated inventory visibility, and made it increasingly difficult to deliver the connected shopping experiences customers expected across channels.

The challenge, however, was bigger than replacing aging systems. It was making the right investment. The market was crowded with commerce, product information management (PIM), and order management (OMS) platforms, each promising similar outcomes but varying significantly in capabilities, scalability, implementation complexity, and long-term cost.

A wrong decision could create years of operational complexity, constrain future growth, and lock the business into technology that no longer matched its ambitions.

Before committing to a major technology investment, the company needed certainty that the decisions it made would support the business not only today, but for years to come.

Putting Business Strategy Ahead of Technology

Rather than beginning with products, TPS Group Holdings started with strategy. Working with Perficient and leveraging the EnvisionOnline Platform Selection methodology, leadership first aligned around the capabilities required to support the company's future operating model.

The focus was not on software features. It was on the business outcomes the company needed to achieve: consistent experiences across every channel, clearer inventory visibility, stronger mobile performance, greater operational flexibility, personalization at scale, and a foundation built for long-term growth.

By defining success before reviewing vendors, leadership created a decision framework rooted in business goals, customer expectations, and operational requirements, one that let every later decision be measured against what mattered most to the business's future.

Bringing Clarity to a Complex Marketplace

With priorities established, TPS Group Holdings and Perficient turned to the market. What initially appeared to be an overwhelming number of viable options became a disciplined evaluation process designed to separate promise from fit.

Over a 10-week engagement, the team:

  • Evaluated 19 enterprise platforms across PIM, commerce, and OMS categories
  • Assessed six PIM vendors, ten commerce vendors, and three OMS vendors
  • Conducted detailed platform reviews, vendor demonstrations, and total cost of ownership analysis
  • Compared solutions against defined business objectives and operational requirements
  • Narrowed the field to the platforms best positioned to support the company's future operating model

The result was more than a shortlist of vendors. TPS Group Holdings transformed a complex and high-stakes decision into a focused set of strategic options backed by objective analysis and measurable business criteria.

From Uncertainty to Action

The engagement delivered a clear recommendation, but its greatest value was giving leadership the confidence to move forward. By replacing assumptions with structured evaluation and objective decision-making, TPS Group Holdings gained a comprehensive understanding of the commerce technology landscape, confidence in a significant long-term investment, and a validated roadmap for implementation and execution.

With that direction established, the organization was able to move from evaluation into implementation with a shared understanding of how its selected platforms would support both current operations and future growth.

Built for What Comes Next

For TPS Group Holdings, the most important outcome wasn't a new platform. It was a validated way to make that decision. By defining strategic priorities before evaluating technology, the company replaced a wide, uncertain field of options with a direction it could defend and reduced the risk that comes with a major enterprise investment.

TPS Group Holdings now moves into implementation with a technology strategy built around its own business goals rather than vendor claims, and a foundation designed to support more than 100 stores as the company continues to expand.
