A Cloud Migration Strategy With Platform Modernization

Our client is a leading state-licensed, nonprofit, private health insurer that is part of a 34-member national health insurance organization. Perficient and the health insurer have enjoyed a successful years-long partnership as we guide the client on its digital transformation journey.
Legacy Platforms Weren't Meeting Enterprise Demand
The organization was lagging its competitors due to expensive legacy platforms that couldn't scale to meet enterprise demand. It needed to implement modern applications, containerization, and APIM platforms for ongoing innovation and cloud transformation to compete in a healthcare landscape driven by consumer expectations, new care choices, and government mandates.
We strategically and pragmatically assessed key areas and opportunities where a transition from legacy on-premises systems to the cloud would most impact business agility, increase speed to market, improve outcomes, and reduce costs. Our interoperability solution securely unlocks data through the core tenants of modernization, optimization, and democratization.
Building and Modernizing a Data Cloud Platform
We implemented a cloud-based data management platform in AWS with added data security layers to enable batch and real-time data streaming. The new platform lays the foundation for multiple systems and dependencies, including interoperable data exchange, DevSecOps program, and application modernization.
The data management platform collects PII/PHI data from multiple disparate internal and external sources and builds a normalized data model of consistent common elements to clearly identify which data source "owns" that truth so that explicit patterns for data integrity can be established and carried forward.
We equipped client teams with a reliable container-hosting platform and built a secure framework to mask PII/PHI data and keep patient information confidential across platforms and systems. We also implemented on-premises and cloud-based API management suites and microservices to provide better user experiences on the insurers mobile and web applications as well as secure, authorized, FHIR-enabled sharing of data across the full care network.
In total, we migrated more than 26 applications with more than 200+ datasets and enabled three environments (dev/UAT/prod) for both engineering and analytics.
